On May 18th, the New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA) honored Lew Pepperman as the first ever recipient of the newly renamed “Lewis J. Pepperman Distinguished Service Award,” an honor that was previously known as the “Distinguished Service Award.”
Lewis J. Pepperman (1952-2020) was a Shareholder at Stark & Stark for over 43 years, and served as Stark & Stark’s Co-Managing Shareholder from 1999-2014. Most recently he served as the Chair of Stark & Stark’s Business Litigation Practice Group. As a selfless and kind-hearted leader, Lew mentored many lawyers throughout our community.
While Stark & Stark had initially submitted a nomination for Lew for consideration for the NJSBA’s 2021 James B. Boskey Award, an honor given for achievements in Alternative Dispute Resolution, the NJSBA Dispute Resolution Section Board decided that they would go a step further and approved re-naming the Distinguished Service Award to the Lewis J. Pepperman Distinguished Service Award, and to name Lew as its first honoree, postmortem.
Lew always led by example in everything he did, and his commitment to the ADR, Legal, and Regional communities have left a lasting impact on all who knew and worked with him. Stark & Stark is proud to have known and loved such an inspiring individual, and will continue to honor him through this award for years to come.
