As Juneteenth approaches, Stark & Stark employees are excited to participate in a presentation given by archivist Sonja N. Woods on June 17, 2021, hosted by the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee. Ms. Woods will be giving a lunchtime presentation titled: “Juneteenth: Fact, Fiction, and Frustration”. The hour-long presentation will discuss many topics, including:
- Why Juneteenth Seems Like a New Celebration
- The History of Juneteenth
- The Lobbyists’ Narrative
- The Emancipation Proclamation and the 13th Amendment
- African-Americans in the Civil War
Presenter Sonja N. Woods is the Archivist for the Moorland-Spingarn Research Center at Howard University in Washington, D.C.. The Research Center is committed to preserving the legacy of people of African descent for this and future generations.
