Yesterday, Stark & Stark Shareholder Bruce Stern was sworn in as President of the American Association for Justice (AAJ) at the annual conference in San Diego. AAJ is the world’s largest trial bar with over 20,000 members. The organization stands to promote justice and fairness, safeguards victims’ rights, and strengthening the civil justice system through education and disclosure of information.
“I know that I follow in the footsteps of giants who dug our wells and I thank and honor all the past presidents of AAJ who came before me. Together we can accomplish so much. I look forward to serving as your president and working together with you,” Bruce said.
Mr. Stern joined AAJ in 1982 and is a member of the Executive Committee and the National Board of Governors. He is a past chair of the Traumatic Brain Injury Litigation Group and a past chair of AAJ’s Motor Vehicle Collision, Highway and Premises Section. He now leads the nation’s trial lawyers and is the first President hailing from New Jersey in AAJ’s over seventy year history.
Mr. Stern says diversity and inclusion “rank highly on the priority list for AAJ Leadership.” He said, “We are 100 percent committed to building and sustaining both a diverse and inclusive organization. As President of AAJ, I fully support that commitment and will work tirelessly to fulfill it.”
Mr. Stern also plans to recommit AAJ’s relationship with Joel Feldman and End Distracted Driving. He stated, “Thousands of lives have been saved by educating high-schoolers about these dangers and who better than to teach this message than passionate trial lawyers.”
“Bruce has dedicated his professional life to protecting access to the courts and the right to jury trial. This accomplishment reflects decades of hard work, commitment, and sacrifice. We could not be more proud of him and wish him the best as he leads the nation’s trial lawyers,” said Managing Shareholder, Michael Donahue.
Bruce Stern is a Shareholder of Stark & Stark and is a member of the Accident & Personal Injury Group. He concentrates his practice in the area of traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries and wrongful death. He previously co-authored a book entitled “Litigating Brain Injuries” published by Thomson Reuters; the chapter entitled “Brain Injuries” is included in AAJ’s Litigation Tort Case Series, published by AAJ Press.
In addition to his work at AAJ, Mr. Stern is the Treasurer of both the International Brain Injury Association and the North America Brain Injury Society. Bruce is a past president of the New Jersey Association for Justice (formerly ATLA-NJ) and recipient of its highest award, the Gold Medal for Distinguished Service.
