Stark & Stark is proud to announce that Shareholder Evan J. Lide has received a $1.75 million judgement for a client who sadly passed away due to a catastrophic injury. In March of 2018, Mr. Lide’s client was at a neighbor’s St. Patrick’s Day party in Hamilton, NJ when an individual drove up to the party, squealing his tires, and driving up onto the lawn of the house where the party was being held. Because he was concerned with everyone’s safety, Mr. Lide’s client approached the man in the vehicle and kindly asked him to be careful while driving. This led to an altercation, and the man from the vehicle physically attacked Mr. Lide’s client, who was then rushed to the hospital.
Mr. Lide’s client was left with a fractured skull when his head was slammed into the cement ground multiple times. A neurosurgeon had to perform a Hemicraniectomy, where a large flap of his skull was removed and the dura was opened, leaving space for the swollen brain to bulge and reduce intracranial pressure. Since the swelling didn’t go down, the surgeon had to perform the surgery again in hopes it would be a success. Unfortunately, after those two emergency surgeries, the doctor announced that Mr. Lide’s client was brain dead and would never recover.
The victim was 62 years old and a beloved husband and father. He lived in Hamilton, NJ for over 20 years, and retired in 2014 after working with the Local 89 for 25 years. In April 2021, the Court conducted a proof hearing where the judge received testimonies from the client’s widow and daughter, along all the medical submissions that were provided. The judge awarded the client’s family with $1.75 million.
“I’m grateful the civil justice system worked in my client’s favor, because now his family has finally been able to move on if they ever could, because of this judgment,” Evan explained. “Even though they will never get anything out of this tragic occurrence, there’s finally a measure of justice for the family.”
