Due to the recent nationwide recall of the drug Digitek (manufactured by Actavis Totowa LLC, and distributed by Mylan Pharmaceuticals, Inc.) the drug injury attorneys of Stark & Stark are now reviewing potential lawsuits related to Digitek overdoses. Digitek was initially distributed in order to treat heart failure and cardiac arrhythmias, however, in recent months several incidents of illnesses and injuries have been reported. Stark & Stark is currently representing the family of a person who died as a result of a Digitek overdose.
In April 2008 Mylan Pharmaceuticals, Inc. initiated a voluntary recall of Digitek citing the possibility that tablets may contain double the approved amount of the active ingredient which could pose a risk for toxicity, specifically in patients with renal failure. Additional side effects include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, low blood pressure, cardiac instability and bradycardia. Death is also a result from excessive intake of Digitek.
The risk for illness and injuries associated with Digitek’s overdoes is so great that the US Food and Drug Administration is asking pharmacists to notify all patients who have been prescribed Digitek of the risks posed by the double-strength tablets
